A lush island of tropical beauty, St. Lucia is part of the Windward Islands. Its 238 square miles are covered with rain forests, banana plantations, palm lined beaches, mountains and even a drive-in volcano. Prettier sights are to be seen at Diamond Falls and Mineral Baths where you can walk the gardens and take a dip in the pool under the waterfalls. One of St. Lucia’s truly spectacular attractions is the Pitons, two volcanic cones rising up from the sea that have become a symbol of the island itself. Today, St. Lucia offers its guests a wide range of natural charm with beautiful beaches, lush scenery, fishing villages unchanged by time and friendly Caribbean hospitality.

“Cabrits National Park ligt aan de noordwestkust van Dominica, direct grenzend aan Douglas Bay en nabij de stad Portsmouth. Het land van het park strekt zich uit over een panoramisch voorgebergte gevormd door de laag oprijzende tweelingpieken van uitgedoofde vulkanen (bekend als East Cabrit en West Cabrit) met uitzicht op stranden, met Douglas Bay aan de ene kant en Prince Rupert Bay aan de overkant. Het mariene gedeelte van het park strekt zich uit over het wemelende onderwaterleven van de ondiepe wateren van Douglas Bay.

Het park kan onder water worden verkend of er is ongeveer 3 km aan wandelpaden te volgen. De belangrijkste daarvan is Fort Shirley, een grimmig uitziende hulk die voor het laatst als militaire post werd gebruikt in 1854. Er is een klein museum in het welkomstcentrum van het park dat de natuurlijke en historische aspecten van het park belicht.

Bekend als een van de best bewaarde Georgische steden in de Caraïben, heeft Falmouth een rijke geschiedenis uit de 18e en de vroege 19e eeuw. Verken de Saint Peter’s Anglicaanse kerk, gebouwd in 1795; winkel voor lokale ambachten in het Albert George Shopping and Historical Center, en breng een bezoek aan Greenwood Great House; gebouwd in 1760, was dit huis ooit eigendom van de familie van dichter Elizabeth Barrett Browning en tegenwoordig is het de thuisbasis van het mooiste antiek museum in het Caribisch gebied.

Barrow-in-Furness is een grote industriestad die in slechts 40 jaar is uitgegroeid van een klein 19e-eeuws gehucht tot het grootste ijzer- en staalcentrum ter wereld en een grote scheepsbouwer. Er zijn veel mooie kerken en openbare gebouwen in Barrow, waaronder het stadhuis.

St. Kitts’ was the first successful colony in the British West Indies. Indeed, when viewed from the top of Brimstone Hill, the “Gibraltar of the Caribbean” appears to dominate everything in the Southern Sea. Shop in colourful Basseterre, play golf and tour old plantation houses. For the adventuresome there’s a brisk hike through the rain forest.

Les Saintes is a thoroughly entrancing group of islands lying off Guadeloupe. You’ll enjoy the superb beaches, snorkelling, diving and other watersports on offer.
