De op twee na grootste stad van Ierland is een prachtige stad aan de oever van de rivier de Lee. Bezoek St. Finn Barre’s Cathedral, een prachtig, drievoudig voorbeeld van Frans-gotische architectuur, en breng wat tijd door in The Old Gaol, waar originele 19e-eeuwse cellen enkele fascinerende verhalen vertellen.

Located along the English Channel, Portland is divided into two areas: north and south. The south end is where extensive stone quarries lie, a resource important to the region. Unique to the city is the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, which hosts world sailing championships.

Le Havre is de grootste en belangrijke havenstad van Normandië met ruim 200.000 inwoners, ligt aan de monding van de Seine nabij het Kanaal. Na Rouen is Le Havre de tweede grootste stad in Normandië. Het vertek punt voor de trans-Atlantische oversteek vanuit Frankrijk.

Het deel van de stad dat na de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd opgebouwd onder leiding van de architect Auguste Perret, werd in 2005 door UNESCO tot Werelderfgoed verklaard.

Bezienswaardigheden:
Een tocht door het moderne havengebied, dat nog steeds wordt uitgebreid, met verschillende havenstations, is zeer aan te bevelen.
Moderne architectuur: Place de l’Hôtel de Ville, Avenue Foch ook wel vergeleken met de Champs-Elyssées van Parijs. De moderne kerk St. Joseph is een gebouw van gewapend beton met een achthoekige toren van 106 meter hoogte, vanwaar u een prachtig uitzicht heeft.
De 160 meter lange roltrap bij de Rue Aristide Bruant (hoogteverschil 50 meter) naar het hoger gelegen stadsgedeelte, dat ook bereikt kan worden vanaf de Cours de la République via de Tunnel Jenner.
In het Musée des Beaux-Arts is vooral moderne schilderkunst te zien (o.a. van Dufy). Ook het Musée du Vieux Havre is een bezoek waard. In de oude kerk Ste Honorine de Graville (met een zwarte Madonna) uit de 11/13de eeuw bevindt zich een museum met beeldhouwwerk uit de 12de tot de 16de eeuw.

Vanaf de westelijke kant van de Avenue Foch, aan de noordzijde van de Boulevard Albert I, ligt het strand, dat doorloopt via de villarijke voorstad Steadresse tot de 4 km verderop gelegen voorstad Nice Havrais
Ten oosten van Le Havre ligt het middeleeuwse Harfleur, waar nog een beetje een 15de-eeuwse sfeer te proeven is. Er is een 83 meter hoge toren uit de 15de eeuw.
