Giurgiu is a city in southern Romania. The seat of Giurgiu County, it lies in the historical region of Muntenia. It is situated amongst mud-flats and marshes on the left bank of the Danube facing the Bulgarian city of Ruse on the opposite bank.
De naam L’Île-Rousse, ook wel rood eiland, past bij deze natuurlijke haven. Zijn rotsachtige uitsteeksels, waarop een kleine stenen Genuese toren en de vuurtoren van Pietra staan, zijn een droom van elke fotograaf, vooral bij zonsondergang. Deze stad van slechts 3000 inwoners nabij de grotere haven van Calvi aan de westkust van Corsica, werd voor het eerst bewoond foor Feniciërs. Het is ideaal om een middag te luieren op het stadsplein, door rustige straten te navigeren, verschillende kerken te bezoeken of door de haven langs mooie witte stranden te slenteren. Weggestopt in de ongebruikelijke doorgangen zijn mooie oude villa’s en gebouwen die dateren uit de late 18e eeuw. Als u zich wat avontuurlijker voelt, dient L’Île-Rousse als uitvalsbasis om het ruige binnenland va Corsica te verkennen, waar oude stenen dorpjes bovenop steile heuvels liggen en wijngaarden hele valleien vullen.
